Tips for Buying and Selling

To help you to maximize profits using Troop Ads, we've put together some helpful tips to make things easy. Even if you provide a service, our site will accommodate you also. We are confident that are user-friendly--and unique--website will make your experience enjoyable. Please read our tips below for ways to take advantage of our free classifieds and website features.

Selling Tips

1. Make your title and description relevant to the category and without fluff. Try to capture and keep the interest of potential buyers by using only the amount of words necessary to describe your product or service.

2. You should strive to say enough to get the potential buyer to contact you or visit your website. Don't provide unnecessary details that the buyer will read over searching for the important information.

3. In your descriptions, use verbs (words with action), i.e Remarkable, Amazing, Proud, etc. Action words make reading more enjoyable and less boring.

4. Explain how your product is unique. What makes it different from any other product listing on the Internet or our site?

5. When explaining DO NOT try to sell your product or service in your ad, just lead the potential customer to you or your website.

6. The MOST IMPORTANT part of your ad is your AD TITLE. Use your title to grab attention. Your title is what the search engines will find. So when choosing your title, use something that you would search for in Google or Yahoo. In other words, be descriptive; you wouldn't search for "New Car," but probably "2008 Honda Accord" or "Bowflex Power Tower." So before typing your ad title, ask yourself, "Would I type this in Google if I were searching for it?"

7. Posting your ads online is different than posting to the newspaper or any other medium. To attain the maximum exposure, you'll need to post your ads more frequently online. However, this doesn't mean posting the same ad over and over on the same day. To achieve maximum results, post your ad around every 5-7 days. Posting more than once during a 5-7 day period is considered spamming.

8. Spammers will get their ads and accounts deleted. There is zero tolerance for spammers. Besides, too much exposure will lose the interest of potential customers. Think about it, after you see an ad over and over again, don't you get tired of it? If you see spamming activity, please report it through our "contact" link.

9. Monitor the results of your ad. If you don't get the response you'd like, try changing your ad. Review your description, pictures, and most importantly, your ad title. You can monitor your results by checking the page views at the bottom of your ad listing.

Building Signs & Flyers

Signs and Flyers will maximize your exposure. You can buy flyers from professional print shops, or take advantage of our free flyer/sign tool within your account. Once you create your sign/flyer, post it in areas with the most exposure (stores, malls, break areas, etc.). Using this feature will allow potential customers to visit your ad online 24/7 for a full description with pictures.

The Four P's to Profit

The Power of Pictures

Posting pictures of your product will drastically increase your calls/e-mails. Pictures show that you have a genuine product and its in good condition. Make sure your pictures are of good quality to achieve the most effectiveness. For ads of homes, cars, equipment, etc., people like to see multiple shots.

The Power of Pricing

Setting the right price is just as important as picking the perfect ad title. Ensure that you check prices of other ads within the site or printed in your local newspaper. If you don't mind negotiation, use the or-best-offer (OBO) feature.

The Power of Presentation

You only get one chance to give the right presentation. When selling used goods, ensure that you clean them thoroughly to make it look as new as positive. Make sure your photos are taken in a bright, clean environment. In addition, presenting ads in the featured section will ensure it's seen.

The Power of Positioning

Every ad placed on our site is assigned its own ad number. You can use this ad number in other postings to lead your potential buyers to your more descriptive online ad with pictures. For instance, if you place your ad in newspapers, you don't get much from the black and white text. At times, people view the newspaper late at night or early morning so they may feel its not appropriate to call. To keep their interest in your product or service, you can lead them to this site to view more details and pictures that will "capture" their interest anytime they choose to visit. After viewing your ad online, they can contact you right away by using the "contact seller" button, then you can call them back at your convenience. Here is an example of ad you can place in the newspaper:

YOUR AD TITLE HERE
$180k/obo. Call 123-4567 or
TroopAds.com item# 123456

Our site allows you to track how many times your ad was viewed, replied to, and the number of times someone used the "Tell-a-friend" function on your ad.

Meeting Someone in Person

As with any ad, you may get a request to see the item from a local buyer. If so, it's good practice to meet in a public place and be sure to bring along someone for safety. It's also good practice to have a cell phone handy, charged, and with adequate minutes. As mentioned above, maintain your integrity by being up-front about needed repairs or defects in your product.

After Completing the Sale

Once you and the buyer reach an agreement, be sure to provide a receipt and write that the product is purchased "as is." Both parties should sign and keep copies for record. This will protect you and the buyer if liability becomes an issue in the future.

Buying Tips

Research Before Buying

Be sure you're getting the deal you expect. Check through our other ads for similar bargains in case another buyer has a better deal. If you find a better deal, this will increase your negotiating power.

After Completing the Sale

Once you and the seller reach agreeable terms, they should provide you with a receipt. Both parties should sign and keep copies for their records. This will protect you and the seller if liability becomes an issue in the future. You wouldn't want to purchase an old antique for $2 and the seller comes back weeks later saying you owe them hundreds because they found out it's worth more.
